Isn’t ‘Home Manager’ a more appropriate designation than ‘house wife’?
The crux of this article is to add a suitable and more deserving designation to all women who form the backbones of their families. Also to prove that not only office-goers hold a designation, working women at home too can be suitably designated.
Housewife? Who has coined this term?
In simple English, if we try joining the two words, house and wife, then comes out, housewife. Housewives are not the wives of their houses (sounds hilarious) so most aptly, they must be designated as Home Managers. Managing a home has never been a piece of cake and tradition speaks loud and clear of women’s enduring power in home management. It’s my experience that managing a job is much more easier than managing a home (others’ opinions may vary).
After marriage, an instance of the introductory session of women in front of their relatives or friends as,
Relative/Friend — “Is she working?”
The introducer — “No, she is not. She is a housewife.”
Here, I assume a 3D coin to support three schools of thought.
First — Some women will be overwhelmed by this designation.
Second — Some will feel perturbed and,
Third- The rest will hold a neutral opinion.
Now the question arises why some feel so unsettling of the fact that they are housewives. Yes, they should be as housewives ‘work’ by managing their household chores (though in urban life, men have started ) and housewife is not a well- deserving designation.
What is meant by the word, ‘working’? Does it only apply to women who have their career? If I am correct at English Grammar, then ‘work’ is a noun and ‘working’ is a verb.
It seems that we have totally forgotten the very meaning of the term, work. According to them, ‘work’ is directly related to having paid employment and not merely investing time and efforts at home for the betterment of their families. If this is the case, then all women who have a paid employment shall also be addressed as part-time housewives as they also manage household chores along with their jobs.
Adding another angle, there are a lot many who has left their highly-paid jobs for the wellbeing of their families or may be out of some compulsions. They might be in the midst of climbing on to the next step of their career when they felt the need of giving up their dream jobs for their families. Are they housewives ? No, they are Home Managers.
According to me, House Wife is not the right word but Home Manager. Give it a thought.
I know that highly orthodox families will be rigid enough to accept the minor alteration in their thought process but it is not impossible. You need to switch off the ‘house wife’ mode and turn on the ‘Home Manager’ mode.
Friends, this is the era of Augmented Reality (AR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), robotics, digitization and other ‘advancements’ in science & technology. Why are we not ‘advancing ourselves when it comes to rational thinking’?
From now onwards, when a woman is being asked, ‘Are you working?’
Her reply, ‘Yes, I work as a Home Manager’.
I am sure that women who fall into the second school of thought possess the same opinion.
That’s all folks.
Stay safe. Stay connected.
